First registered here in 1968, the Malamute is classified in the WorkingGroup. Originally bred by the Eskimos of northwest Alaska and known as the carthorse of the Arctic

The Akita is the largest of the three Japanese breeds belonging to the Spitz family of dogs. At one time ownership was restricted to the nobility, who used the breed to hunt large game such as boar and deer.

Relatively new to South Africa, Black Terriers were developed by the Russian military as guard dogs, and achieved pedigree status in 1981.

South African in origin, the Boerboel is thought to have descended from dogs that the Dutch, French and English pioneers brought from Europe.
