The Welsh Springer Spaniel, with his striking red and white colouring, was known as a separate and distinct variety of Spaniel, and can be traced back with certainty to the 18th century. He is a medium-sized dog – smaller than his English counterpart but larger than the Cocker Spaniel – and has a style, exuberance and expression all his own. Originally used for hunting, he has a powerful ground covering action and great stamina. He has never lost his hunting instincts, so still makes an excellent gundog, and also a good hiking companion. With his good-natured disposition and love of children, the Welsh bonds closely with his family, thriving on human companionship and joining in every family activity. Colour: Rich red and white
