The Min Pin, as the breed is commonly known, was initially registered with KUSA in the early sixties. Contrary to popular belief, he is not a Miniature version of the Dobermann Pinscher, but a much older native German breed that has been known in that country for over 300 years. Used originally as an efficient barnyard ratter, he has become a popular companion dog. A sturdy, compact little dog of elegant carriage, he has a precise high-stepping gait which is different to any other toy breed. His smooth, hard, short coat can be kept glossy with a minimum of effort. His lively temperament and considerable intelligence make him an ideal family pet. Proud and fearless, with acute hearing, he is also a valuable watch dog. His exercise needs are minimal. Colour: black, blue or chocolate with tan markings, or solid red.
